M. Dhanalakshmi of Vijaylakshmi Nagar in Kattupakkam chased and managed to nab a chain snatcher who attempted to snatch her 5 sovereign chain. She was returning home from a shop on Sunday night at around 9.30 p.m. when a man on a motorcycle stopped her on the pretext to ask for directions..
He snatched her chain and attempted to flee. However Dhanalakshmi caught hold of him and raised an alarm. The chain snatcher brandished a knife and even inflicted injuries on her hand. Still she clung on to him till help arrived. Some passersby caught hold of the man and handed him over to the Poonamallee police. On hearing about this incident, the Commissioner of Police, A. K. Viswanathan called Dhanalakshmi to his office and conveyed his appreciation for her bravery.
