The Election Commission has rejected the demand made by Opposition Parties for counting of the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPATS) slips in five polling booths in each assembly segment with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) prior to vote count. The Election Commission said that counting would be as per the Supreme Court approved guidelines. A delegation of 22 Opposition Parties had met the full Election Commission and requested counting of the VVPATS slips.
The Election Commission had deliberated on the issue with senior officials and after several rounds of discussion they arrived at the decision that it was not feasible and not possible to accede to the demand of the Opposition Parties and said that the counting would proceed on the guidelines given by the Supreme Court..It further assured the political parties of strict adherence to the set procedures for the entire counting system especially the security of strong rooms and counting centres.
