Hundreds of college students, lawyers and members of women’s organisations in the state took to the streets demanding action against the accused in the Pollachi sexual abuse case. Many students boycott classes and staged a demonstration demanding stringent punishment for the accused.
Advocates practicing in Coimbatore staged a demonstration outside the court complex seeking an enquiry committee with a woman judge of the Madras High Court to probe into the case. The National Commission for Women has expressed serious concern over the safety of women in Tamilnadu. Its chairperson Rekha Sharma in a letter to the Director General of Police called for appropriate action as per legal provisions.
