Meet the beautiful and brilliant Dr. Bhuvaneshwari Rajendran, Senior Consultant in Neurology and Neurophysiology at Kauvery Hospital, Chennai.  Born in Chennai to Rajendran and Pushpa, she schooled in La Chatelain Junior College in Valasaravakkam where she excelled not only in academics but also in every extracurricular activity right from dance and elocution to sports. She won numerous prizes in inter school dance and elocution competitions. Being the captain of her school throwball and volleyball teams, she participated in many  inter school matches and her team came out victorious in many matches under her dynamic leadership.

Though her school followed a CBSE curriculum, she said that no pressure was put on the students to excel only in academics. On the other hand, they were encouraged to take part and excel in multiple extracurricular activities.

Her paternal grandfather was an anaesthetic in the army. Her maternal grandfather was an entrepreneur and the founder of Eyetex. She fondly remembers her maternal grandmother who had a lot of health issues and was in and out of hospitals. Her mother was the only daughter and had the responsibility to care for her and deal with many doctors. It was at this point of time that her passion for medicine and neurology was ignited.

With this goal in mind, she studied medicine in Bangalore and came to Madras Medical College to do her internship. During this period, her marriage was arranged and she tied the knot with Vijay who is from the IT industry.

Dr.Bhuvana travelled with her husband to the UK after marriage where she did her training and higher education and specialized in neurology. Her impressive array of qualifications include an MBBS, MRCP (UK), CCT (UK), PG Diploma in Neurology from UCL London and a prestigious FRCP (UK) designation.

The couple is blessed with a daughter Vidya who has completed BA in journalism and is a young entrepreneur.

After her return to India in 2012, Dr. Bhuvana joined Global Hospital for a couple of years. She later joined Kauvery Hospital in May 2014 and has almost completed a decade with them. She is currently the Senior Consultant in Neurology and Neurophysiology and thoroughly enjoys her work and appreciates the friendly environment there.

She also consults at her private clinic in the evenings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The other evenings are spent bonding with her family members as she firmly believes in work life balance.

She also specializes in Neuromuscular disorders, Epilepsy, Sleep Medicine and Stroke and is one of the few specialists in the country who have expertise to perform neurophysiological procedures for both children and adults.

She has authored many papers in peer reviewed journals and penned chapters for text books too.

Dr Bhuvana has won many awards for her exceptional work. Some of them are the Prominent Doctors Award in Neurology-Silicon India in 2023, Joint runner for best IMA Secretary in 2021, Mayan award for clinical and charity work in 2022, Women health care leader-The Golden AIM award in 2022, Freedom from Cancer Trust award for service in 2021 and the Innovative Healthcare Leadership Award-Neurology by the Golden AIM Awards in 2020.

She is currently the Secretary of the Indian Medical Association, Kauvery Chapter. She was a former President of Rotary Club of Madras Temple City, for the period 2018-2019.

Dr. Bhuvana is also into social work and is the founder and trustee of ‘’Pushpam Trust’’ that supports medical treatment as well as education for the underprivileged.

Filled with zest for life, she has multiple hobbies but the main ones are reading, travelling and gardening. Being an avid reader, she likes to read all genres especially non-fiction and autobiographies.

Though she is not much of a movie person, her favourite actors are Kamal Haasan and Vijay Sethupathy for the versatile roles they play. She discloses that Kamal is the favourite actor of her entire family.

Basically Dr. Bhuvana is an extrovert and likes meeting new people. She is part of a Rotary Club and is actively involved in all their activities both social and charitable.

She is a great fan of tennis and cricket and follows both sports very closely. She also gets to watch the ongoing IPL matches.

Dr. Bhuvana is a vegetarian and loves to spend time cooking. She likes to try out all types of cuisines. Her favourite food ranges from pasta to momos with dips, mediterranean cuisine and the humble curd rice and rasam.

She unwinds after a hard day’s work by listening to music and chatting with her mother. She relishes any good music whether it is classical, western or Tamil movie songs. She advocates the importance for every individual to pursue a hobby in order to unwind and get recharged for the next day.

She is a typical global citizen and when it comes to outfits, she is comfortable with both western and Indian outfits and always dresses for the occasion besides carrying them off in style.

Dr. Bhuvana is one of the leading neurologists in India and strives to make an emotional connect with her patients and their family members, which according to her makes a big difference. She puts in her hundred percent in everything she does and goes that extra mile which ultimately pays rich dividends. To many patients and their families, she is a God send.
