Kakapo, the world’s fattest parrot has been named as New Zealand’s Bird of the Year 2020. It is also known as owl parrot. This is it’s second victory in the ‘Bird of the Year’ contest. It’s earlier victory was in the year 2008. It is fat, flightless and a nocturnal bird.
It belongs to a critically endangered species and is also the world’s heaviest and largest living parrot. This competition was conducted by Forest & Bird, the environmental group that organises the annual contest in New Zealand. It turns heated at times as politicians and celebrities too get to endorse their preferred creatures. There was a record breeding season in 2019 when more than 200 eggs were hatched.
