Women scientists and researchers have requested for facilities for childcare, creches, safer laboratories and more funding of research projects in order to make the work environment more conducive. If more facilities were provided, the government can ensure that more women choose the field of science and remain there instead of dropping out.
Many professors who spoke on the occasion of the Women’s Science Congress stressed the need for a supportive system for young women like childcare facilities and creches. Some also spoke about the bureaucracy involved in getting of approvals. The Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Trilochan Mohapatra said that men have a big role to play in the way society inculcates the aspirations of women while speaking at the inauguration of the Congress.
