Anjali, a 46 year old woman who was sleeping on a pavement on Walltax Road was run over by an autorickshaw in the wee hours of the morning. Three other people a woman and her two children who were also sleeping on the pavement have sustained injuries.
Police sources said that the autorickshaw driver picked up a passenger from Chennai Central Railway Station and was going towards Moolakothalam. While he was crossing Blue Star Hotel, a dog suddenly crossed the road and resulted in the driver losing control of the auto. He then ran over Anjali and three others who were sleeping on the pavement. While Anjali died on the spot, the others were injured and were rushed to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The auto driver has been detained by the Elephant Gate Police and investigations are on.
