A woman priest solemnised a wedding by following Hindu rituals and religious practices in the city. In what is considered to be the first wedding solemnised by a woman, Sushma Harini, a Telugu and Vignesh Raghavan, a Tamilian were married at Dakshin Chitra on the outskirts of the city.
Barambara Maheshwari who is from Mysore did a good job of conducting the wedding and she even went on to explain the significance of every mantra to both the bride and groom in English. It is said that the bride who is an advocate insisted on having woman priests and musicians at the wedding. It was very tough for her parents to find a woman priest and it was the bride and groom who finally managed to find Barambara Maheshwari.It ultimately turned out to be a happy occasion for everyone including the friends and relatives who attended the wedding.
