A woman staff of the Arignar Anna Zoological Park at Vandalur was injured by a tiger cub at the zoo. Vijaya and her husband are residents of Hastinapuram near Guduvancherry. They have been working as maintenance staff of the zoo for several years.
Vijaya was assigned the maintenance of an enclosure of tiger cubs. While standing near the cage on Republic Day, by mistake she put her hand inside the cage. A one and a half year old cub named Ritwik injured her hand with it’s nail. Vijaya was given medical attention immediately and was hospitalized. The zoo currently has 16 tigers and 12 white tigers. There are over a dozen enclosures to accommodate tiger cubs.
