The other two women who won the award earlier were Marie Curie in 1903 and Maria Goeppert Mayer in 1963. Dr. Donna Strickland is based in the University of Waterloo in Canada. This win comes after a physicist gave an offensive lecture at Geneva where he commented that “physics was built for men” and that male scientists are being discriminated against.
