An Ethihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi to Jakarta was diverted to Mumbai when a woman went into labour and delivered a baby girl mid-air. The delivery took place as the aircraft was flying over the Arabian Sea. The Pilot immediately contacted the Mumbai Airport Traffic Control requesting for an emergency landing.
The woman and baby were attended to by airport doctors before being taken to hospital. The flight to Jakarta was delayed by two hours due to the diversion. An Airline spokesperson said that the airlines regrets the inconvenience caused to the passengers and that the safety of their guests and crew was the highest priority of the Airlines.
