The auspicious month of Margazhi is almost upon us, and to usher in this time of stability and abundance, Grand Chennai by GRT Hotels will be hosting a special month-long fest. The fest — Grand Gana Sabha — promises to be a wonderful symphony of music and food that is sure to enthral guests of all ages.
The fest will be held at J. Hind from 16th December 2023 to 14th January 2024. Short for Jugalbandi Hindustani, this restaurant has been serving the best of progressive Indian cuisine to the city, and is the ideal spot to celebrate all things cultural and traditional.
Grand Gana Sabha will feature some of the most esteemed artistes from Chennai’s musical circles, who will bring classical Carnatic and Hindustani tunes to the audiences. While the entire month will feature various artists and their signature tunes, the opening day will see a talent like no other. Rithvik Raja, considered one of the finest musicians of his era, will be opening the Grand Gana Sabha and officially kicking off what will be a fest to remember.
Rithvik’s music holds the essence and core values of the Carnatic art form, while also bringing a creative and imaginative touch that makes his music stand out. He has been performing for more than a decade, with concerts across India and in several other countries such as Australia, the US, New Zealand, UK, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Germany and many more. He has shared the stage with some of the stalwarts from the industry like TK Murthy, Umayalpuram Dr K Sivaraman, Trichy Sankaran, Karaikudi Mani, Guravayur Dorai and others. The young musician is already the recipient of several awards and scholarships, and is only gaining more recognition as he sings his way into a bright future.
To complement the melodies, there is a special menu that has been put together that is sure to bring out the festive spirit in everyone. Traditional favourites get a modern twist in true J. Hind style, with dishes such as kothimbir vade, chettinad paneer tikka, and chilly lollipop with curry leaf tempura as starters. Among the mains are classics such as puliyogare thimbale with peri peri potatoes, doughnut ildy with chemeen curry, and more kalli in both veg and non-veg options. These are just the tip of what will be a meal that will make the taste buds break out in song.
Grand Gana Sabha festival is on from 16th December 2023 to 14th January 2024.
