Winter has knocked Delhi’s doors a little late this time. Skymet has predicted rainy February days ahead and weather in Delhi will remain the same as January. The sudden rainfall and cold waves will drench Delhi-NCR and neighbouring regions, which will add to the winter chill. As per the weather department, conditions are going to remain the same till the weekend. Days are going to get colder in the capital city and its surrounding regions.
This sudden spate of rain has also affected the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj and is going to continue for another 4-5 days as per weather department updates. It might affect the devotees planning a trip to Prayagraj as well. At the same time, high-altitude regions in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh continue to suffer from heavy snowfall.
This has also affected transportation as the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is shut down due to snowfall. According to a transportation department official, they had to close the highway as Jawahar Tunnel was covered in deep snow, which made it impossible for people to drive through. On the other hand, cold has increased in Punjab and other regions because of the continuing rainfall. Punjab’s Gurdaspur region recorded the minimum temperature, pegged at 4.8 degree Celsius while Chandigarh recorded 10.9 degree Celsius.
