Washington based Indian journalist attacked by Khalistan supporters

Lalit Jha, a Washington based Indian journalist was physically attacked and verbally abused by Khalistan supporters in Washington while he was covering a pro-Khalistan protest outside the Indian Embassy on the 25th of March.


The Indian Embassy in the US has condemned this attack on a senior Indian journalist and also thanked the law enforcement agencies for their prompt response in the matter. Lalit Jha was hit on his left ear with two sticks by the Khalistan supporters and he shared a video on his Twitter handle. It was the US Secret Service that protected him and helped him to complete his job. Lalit Jha thanked the Secret Service for protecting him. He said that he had called 911 as he feared his safety, when he spotted Secret Service officers and narrated the incident to them.
He has however decided not to take action against those who attacked him. There have been multiple protests by supporters of Khalistan outside the Indian Embassy and the San Francisco Consulate. The Indian Consulate in San Francisco was also attacked on March 20th.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that the US condemns the acts of violence against the Indian Consulate in San Francisco and said that the US is committed to the safety and security of Indian diplomats.
