Voting begins in India to elect the next Vice President

The 2022 Vice-Presidential election is going on today in the country. Two candidates who are contesting are former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar who is 71 years old and is the National Democratic Alliance nominee. The other candidate is Margaret Alva who is 80 years old and the Opposition candidate.

Polling began at 10 a.m. today and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first few to cast his vote. Polling will continue till 5 p.m. today after which counting of ballots will take place.
The tenure of the current Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu will end on August 10. All Members of Parliament from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are entitled to vote.
