US President Joe Biden signed a historic gun violence bill that could save thousands of lives. The recent mass shootings in Texas where 19 students and 2 teachers were killed was the tip of the iceberg and the government decided to take stern measures to put an end to gun violence.
The House gave final approval on Friday after the Senate passed it on Thursday. President Biden acted just before he could leave for two summits in Europe. This legislation will toughen background checks for the youngest gun buyers, keep firearms from domestic violence offenders and help states put in place red flag laws that will make it easy for the authorities to take weapons from people adjudged to be dangerous.
This step comes in the wake of a ruling by the Supreme Court striking down a New York law that restricted people’s ability to carry concealed weapons.
