The 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child was celebrated and a collection of stories of 30 children who overcame all odds and fought for their rights was released.
The work was released by Pinaki Chakraborthy Chief of UNICEF of Tamilnadu and Kerala and the first copy was received by M.P. Nirmala, Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. While speaking at the occasion, Ms.Nirmala encouraged the children to speak up on issues in their locality. They were asked to directly convey their problems to the District Collector. The importance of children’s education was highlighted. Recommendations were made regarding female infanticide, malnutrition, child marriage, child trafficking and other issues.
