The 1000 km Rickshaw Challenge- Tamil Nadu Run 2016 is an adventure Rally/ Challenge done using Auto-rickshaws. The Rickshaw Challenge – Tamil Nadu Run 2016 adventure ran for 7 days from Chennai and back to Chennai ( 15th Oct till 21stOct), taking its teams of 11 international rickshaw racing teams of 25 participants from 8 countries on an exhilarating journey across the length and breadth of Tamil Nadu.
The aspiring adventurers come from countries as far as US, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Ireland, Sweden, Russia and The Netherlands looking for an experience of a lifetime. And this is exactly what the Rickshaw Challenge – Tamil Nadu Run 2016 provides. In order to win this Challenge, the participants will have to rely on the locals at each destination to guide them along. Clearly it is all about human power.
During the Challenge participants eagerly looked forward to a number of mini- races and challenges on a daily basis through which the contestants also got the opportunity to form a meaningful connection to the places they are visiting. They not only enjoyed the natural beauty of the rural countryside but also sampled the local cuisine and culture.
Along the way, the participants made a difference in the lives of the underprivileged by raising funds for various projects ofRound Table India under their Flagship program Freedom Through Education. Madras Midtown Round Table 42 is the exclusive Charity partner anchor for all the Rickshaw Rallies since 2006 and the over 1500 international participants have helped them raise over USD 300,000 over the years which has been used in school projects not just in Chennai but throughout the Southern India, along the routes of the various rallies, creating infrastructure for about 2000 under privileged children.
For the Tamil Nadu Run 2016 the teams started from Chennai on the 15th Oct 2016 and wind their to Pondicherry, Thanjavur, Yercaud, Thirvannamalai and back to Chennai covering about 1,000 kms. Along the way and had the opportunity of experiencing Tamil Nadu, its culture, scenic beauty the diversity of the people and ofcourse the famous cuisines of the region. The participants also visited school projects in Chennai, Pondicherry and Thirvannamalai interacting with students and teachers.
Madras Midtown Round Table 42 is honored and privileged to have Her Excellency, The Ambassador of Mexico, do the honors of Flagging down the Rally in Chennai on the 21st Aug 2016, at the Madras Seva Sadan, Tambaram. This is the site of their 12 classroom mega project being built at a cost of nearly Rs. 80 Lacs (USD 120,000). The Ambassador is a huge fan of the humble the autorickshaw and infact uses a customized auto-rickshaw as her official vehicle, plying the corridors of power and diplomacy in New Delhi.
