Two primary school teachers in Tirupattur district of Tamil Nadu joined government service by furnishing fake certificates. They served as teachers in primary schools for the past ten years. They were booked by the police in Tirupattur district after the district education officials received complaints about their fake certificates.
The two teachers who are booked are Mahalakshmi of Vaniyambadi, working as a trained graduate teacher at Girisamudram panchayat union primary school and Oliventhan, of Alangayam, working as trained graduate teacher at Vellakuttai panchayat union primary school.
Their certificates were sent to the directorate of school education in Chennai to ascertain their authenticity. It was found that Mahalakshmi had failed in plus two and forged her certificate with good marks in all subjects while Oliventhan forged his certificate by inflating his marks in 3 subjects.
A complaint was lodged with the police and cases were booked under sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 466 (forgery of record of court or of public register) 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of the Indian Penal Code.
