With Christmas coming up shortly, the festive spirit in the hills began with the ancient tradition of cake mixing. The unique ceremony had tourists and locals joining hands with the hotel staff to pep up the Christmas spirit. Different types of liquor and wine was poured over mounds of dry fruits, nuts and spices to prepare the right mix for preparing cakes.
This is the first step towards making the Christmas cake. This ritual is followed all over the world and originated in the 17th century. This cake mixing ceremony is believed to be a harbinger of good tidings and happiness. The liquor which is poured over the nuts and fruits will enable the fruits and nuts to get puffed up. It will also give an aroma and softness to the cake. The mixture will be stored in a vat container till the Christmas week. The cakes are then made from this mixture.
