Doctors from the Shillong Civil Hospital have removed a toothbrush from a woman’s stomach without surgery. A 50 year old woman resident of Shillong, swallowed her tooth brush while brushing her teeth in January.
Her daughter insisted that she consult a doctor and she was referred to a Senior Surgeon in the Shillong Civil Hospital. The X-ray reports could not detect the toothbrush. She was then asked to undergo endoscopy which helped to detect the object in her stomach. The endoscope was used to hook the object and successfully full the brush out through her mouth Dr Isaac Sylem, Senior Surgeon said that the patient was kept on observation for a few hours and discharged later on. This is a rare feat accomplished by the doctors.
