A toddler aged 2 years fell into a vessel of hot sambar while playing. Police sources said that Bhumika was the daughter of Murugan and Surya who were separated a year ago and the little girl lived with her mother in a tent on the pavement on Stringers Street in Parrys.
Surya earned her living by preparing food for people who lived on the platform on Stringers Street. She had prepared the sambar and had gone to get plates when she heard her daughter Bhumika screaming in pain. She had accidentally fallen into the sambar vessel while playing. She was rushed to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment but she succumbed to the burn injuries. The Esplanade police have registered a case of unnatural death and are conducting a probe into the incident.
