Body shaming is one of the nastiest things any person has to face. Relatives, friends, acquaintances, this one, that one, everyone…just about anyone today passes remarks about our appearance, clothes, complexion, hairstyle or anything that we are proud of donning. Whether you are fat or thin, doesn’t matter. Body shamers just don’t need a reason to say things that can be mean and hurtful. Here are a few tips to fight and deal with body shaming.
- Body shamers are almost always individuals with low self-esteem. They try to cover that by trying to portray themselves as your well-wishers. But remember…a body shamer is not here to show you any concern. He or she is in fact trying to feel better by shaming you. They get kind of sadistic pleasure by putting others down.
- Ignore.Ignore.Ignore. You don’t necessarily pay attention when a dog barks, right? So now why do you pay any attention to body shamers?
- If you still cannot ignore their snide remarks, give it back. Tell them in the most undiplomatic terms that your body is your business, and yours only. And that you will neither entertain nor tolerate any comment towards it.
- As far as possible, keep away from body shamers. If they only thing they bring to your life is imbalance, why be in their company at all? Avoid meeting them, besides mere courtesies, spending time with them and collaborating with them in any fashion as far as possible.
- Most importantly, only you can instill happiness in yourself. So don’t ever allow depression, sadness to creep in by sparing more thought to body shamers that has to be.
