The timing for bursting crackers on Deepavali which falls on November 6th has been fixed at 6 to 7am and 7 to 8pm. In order to ensure a pollution free environment, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board would conduct air quality level checks before and after the festival.
The Supreme Court refused to grant another 2 hours for bursting crackers and hence the Tamil Nadu government has fixed the above time. The government has also appealed to the people to use crackers of lesser decibels. Other restrictions imposed are that it should be burst only in open places after getting permission from local bodies and no crackers would be allowed near hospitals, places of worship, hutments and other places that are prone to catch fire.
