Three women in Tamil Nadu- Krishnaveni, S. Ramya and N. Ranjitha are all set to become temple priests and have been certified by the TN Government. They did their training under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the state government. They will be designated as assistant priests at temples in the state.

Currently the HR and CE Department runs six priest training schools and people from all communities are admitted here to get trained to become priests. They are called Archakar Payirchi Palli that enrolls and trains people from all communities.
This is the first time that women enrolled in this course.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that his government made this possible especially at a time when women are considered impure and are not even allowed in the temples of female deities.
