We all are aware of the fact that Lord Hanuman was a Bal Brahmachari (bachelor) and an ardent devotee of Lord Rama. There are numerous temples in India dedicated to the Monkey God in Hindu religion, who is also believed to be an immortal being. However, there’s a temple in the state of Chhattisgarh, where the idol of Hanuman is dressed as a woman and worshipped in the female form.
Perhaps, it is also the only temple in the entire world where Lord Hanuman is worshipped as a woman. A temple in Ratanpur District in Chhattisgarh has an idol of ‘Goddess’ Hanuman. People have huge faith in this temple, as it is believed that whoever offers prayers here, have their wish granted by the Goddess. Here, you can also see the idol of Hanuman, carrying Lord Rama (left) and Mata Sita (right) on each of his shoulders.
The Hanuman temple at Girjabandh has been in existence in the region since ages. Legend has it that the temple was built by a king, named Prithvi Devju of Ratanpur, who had immense faith in Hanuman. He used to worship the Lord every day, without fail. Since Ratanpur experiences extremely hot summers, it is advised to visit the temple during winters. The best time to visit the place is between the months of October and March.
