John Lewis has created a new ‘try before you buy’ lipstick experience in its app which allows shoppers to try shades on before they put them in their basket. Most women struggle to find the right colour especially when shopping online, this app uses augmented reality to apply it to a selfie. This new feature allows shoppers to find a lipstick they like and click on the all-new ‘Try On’ button which takes them to a live screen where they can change the colours which appear on their lips

The virtual lipstick is applied instantly and stays on your lips, moving as you move.  There are thousands of different shades to virtually try out, from over 300 lipstick brands including MAC, Bobbi Brown, Charlotte Tilbury, YSL, BECCA and Lancome. The app hopes it will encourage customers to experiment with new colours that they might not have dared try before.

The John Lewis app is a particularly popular channel for beauty customers – with beauty accounting for 17 per cent of all app orders.   Femail put the app to the test to see if the colours looked realistic and decide whether they would buy them after trying them on via augmented reality.
