The Governor of Telangana, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has requested the Tamilnadu Government to include self defense courses for girls in schools and colleges as part of their curriculum. This would ensure the safety and security of the girls. She made this request during the course of her speech at a function held as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations.
According to her, self defense courses like Silampam, Varma Kalai,etc would enable girls to lead an independent life and make them more self confident. She also wanted parents to keep a close eye on their daughters. She justified death penalty for proved offenders in case of sexual assault cases.
