A strike called for by the Joint Action Council of Tamilnadu Teachers Organisations and Government Employees Organisations has affected the working of schools and government offices across the State. More than 60% of the teachers and Government employees abstained from work.
The charter of demands includes continuation of the old pension scheme for all employees and pay revision structure on par with Central Government teachers. The State government had warned that disciplinary action would be taken against employees if they abstain from work. However the response for the strike was overwhelming.
