It is said that gold is a woman’s best friend and what better occasion to buy it than Akshaya Tritiya. Sale of gold and silver jewelry has gone up by 30 percent and many jewelers have offered free gifts and discounts to grace the occasion. A large number of people thronged famous jewelry outlets across the city. Shops opened at 6 a.m and stayed open till midnight.
Police personnel were placed before each outlet to provide security. They also had a tough time regulating traffic. Akshaya Tritiya is also associated with praying to Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that buying gold on this day brings luck and good fortune. This year many people also made online bookings in advance.
