The Supreme Court opened the doors of the National Defence Academy based in Pune to women and passed an interim order permitting them to take the entrance exam scheduled for November 14.
Top sources in the military establishment say that as women have already been granted permanent commission, there was no hindrance to admitting women to the NDA. Preparations are also underway to build additional infrastructure for women cadets.

There are 18 squadrons in the NDA and 2 more that are coming up will be used for the women cadets. Each squadron has about 120 cadets.
Service chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force will be reviewing the training and administrative arrangements for women candidates.
The next date of hearing is on September 8. Meanwhile the Supreme Court has permitted eligible women to take the entrance exam for the NDA and the Kerala based Naval Academy exams but admission will be based on the outcome of the petition.
