The Supreme Court has issued notice to complainant Purnesh Modi when the matter came up before it today. The case was heard by a bench led by Justice BR Gavai. The matter was then posted for hearing on August 4.

Senior Advocate AM Singhvi who appeared for Rahul Gandhi stressed for an interim suspension of the conviction order but the court refused to grant it and said that it cannot be done before hearing the other side.
Senior Advocate Singhvi requested for an urgent hearing of the case as 111 days have gone by since Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Parliament. He stated that he already missed one session and is also missing out on the monsoon sitting of Parliament as well.
The case relates to Rahul Gandhi’s ”Modi  surname remark” in a political speech during a rally in Karnataka in the year 2019.
