The Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking to restrain its senior most judge, Justice DY Chandrachud from taking oath as the Chief Justice of India on November 9th and termed it as completely misconceived.
A three judge bench comprising Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, Justice S Ravindra Bhat and Justice Bela M Trivedi heard the petition yesterday and did not find any reason to entertain it as it was completely misconceived. Hence, the bench dismissed the same.
Earlier the Bar Council of India and the Supreme Court Bar Association condemned the vilification of the senior most judge Chandrachud and said that it was an attempt to tarnish his image as he is to be elevated as CJI. Justice Chandrachud will take over as the 50th Chief Justice of India on November 9th, a day after Justice UU Lalit demits office.
