Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu on International Women’ s Day on March 8th. She received the Padma Bhushan award last year for social work.
The President of India nominates 12 members to the Upper House of Parliament for their contribution in the fields of arts, literature, sciences and social services.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X that he was delighted to hear that Sudha Murty was nominated to the Rajya Sabha for her contribution to various fields and that her presence would be a powerful testament to the country’s ”Nari Shakti”. He wished her a fruitful Parliamentary tenure.
Sudha Murty is currently the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. Her husband Narayana Murthy is the founder of ITgiant Infosys. The Prime Minister of the UK Rishi Sunak is her son-in-law.
