Sri Lanka’s startup community is getting together to help rebuild the island nation shattered by the Easter weekend bomb blasts that left more than 250 dead and several hundred injured. The group of startups is working to collect at least $100,000 from donors to support initiatives that will offer long-term care to the victims.

The Sri Lankan startup ecosystem is a small community with a little over a hundred startups. The fastest-growing startup in recent times is PickMe, a local ride-hailing app. While many startups are based in Colombo, they are active in other parts of Sri Lanka as well. The founders of Sri Lanka United have also supported the initiative in their individual capacities. The platform had raised about $12,000, as of Friday.

The funds raised will be used by partner organisations such as the Red Cross in line with their goals. They also plan to launch a collection paying homage, inspired by the rich history of our country which represents unity, compassion and empathy. Profits from this will also be donated to Sri Lanka United. The tech startup community previously came together to help the country during the 2016 and 2017 floods to help support the affected victims.
