India had rolled out its vaccination drive on January 16 last year. To mark this achievement, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya released a commemorative postal stamp on the indigenously developed Covaxin vaccine.
The stamp design has a healthcare worker inoculating a senior citizen with a Covid vaccine along with an image of the ”Covaxin” vial. The stamp signifies the remarkable work done by the country’s frontline and healthcare workers. So far, more than 156 crore vaccine doses have been administered and India’s vaccination programme has been a role model for the global community.
Around 93 % of Indian adults have taken the first dose of the vaccine and around 70 % are fully vaccinated.
Union Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar congratulated the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Bharat Biotech team for developing the indigenous vaccine in such a short span of time.
