Actor Sonu Sood who rose to the occasion and did exemplary service to people during the challenging times of the coronavirus pandemic has been conferred with the prestigious SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It may be recalled that he arranged for transport for migrant workers who were stranded, he provided employment opportunities to many and also provided free education for children.
He received the award at a virtual ceremony. Other celebrities who won awards include Angelina Jolie, Priyanka Chopra, David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Liam Neeson and Emma Watson. Sonu said it was a rare honour for him and it felt special to get UN recognition. Sonu Sood was also lauded by his colleagues in the film industry for his service to humanity.
