Journalist Gauri Lankesh who was shot dead by unknown assailants on the 5th of September has been posthumously awarded the prestigious Anna Politkovskoya Award instituted by RAW(Reach All Women in War)
RAW is a platform which honors women of courage who stand up for human rights in war zones across the globe. Her family would receive the award in March 2018 at the Women of the World Festival to be held in London.
She will share the award with Pakistan’s activist Gulalai Ismail who is fighting against Islamic extremities in Pakistan. This award is instituted in the name of the famous Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya who was killed in Moscow in 2006 for speaking out in favour of the suffering civilians in the war in Chechnya.
