Celebrities have been criticized for holidaying during the pandemic. While it’s hard to overlook the spike in COVID-19 cases across the country and many celebrities from Bollywood to Kollywood have been going out on vacations to the Maldives. In fact, holidaying in the Maldives has become ‘the trend’ this season. Many think this is the way to come out from their stressful year of the pandemic but they are forgetting that many others are fighting for their lives while these are enjoying holidaying. Recently, the island country of Maldives banned travellers from India as the latter continues to report an alarming spike in COVID-19 cases.
Shruti Haasan appears to share a similar school of thought and feels that this might not be the best frame of time to showcase “privileges in people’s faces.” The actress, in a recent interview with The Quint, said, “Glad they had a great holiday, they deserved it. I did not personally feel it was a time to go maskless in a pool. It has been a tough time for everyone and for some people much more. I think gratitude and being thankful for privileges is what is most important to know versus throwing your privileges in people’s faces.”
