Shashi Tharoor, an MP from the Congress party will be contesting the party’s presidential polls on October 17. When he conveyed his decision to contest the elections to Sonia Gandhi, she told him that anyone is free to contest the Congress presidential poll.
The same statement was also made by the party’s interim chief Jairam Ramesh. He stated that the election is an open, democratic and transparent process and nobody needs permission to contest.
Shashi Tharoor met Sonia Gandhi along with fellow party leaders at her home to discuss the upcoming Congress presidential elections. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will also be filing his nomination for the Congress presidential election. The polls will be held on October 17 and the results will be declared two days later.
