A 76 year old senior citizen from Tiruchy named Kallammal had approached the Collector with a petition seeking retrieval of her house from her son. She stated in her complaint that her son Thiagarajan had cheated her by getting a gift deed and transferred the house to his name. He got her signature under the pretext of applying a loan from the bank.
After transferring the house to his name, he abandoned her and she had to beg at temples for food. The Pudukottai revenue divisional officer carried out an enquiry and found the claims of Kallammal to be true. The dhana settlement or gift deed was cancelled and the house worth about 1.5 crore was restored to the woman. The son was warned to take care of his mother or else he would be charged under the maintenance and welfare of parents and senior citizens act, 2007.
