We are now into the third year since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Experts have sent out a warning signal that Omicron may not be the last variant and cautioned people not to let down their guard.
The crisis is not over until it’s over everywhere. The effects still continue to affect travel plans, supply chains and health care. Though Omicron appears to be a less severe variant than the earlier strains, it is supposed to be highly infectious.
Scientists are of the opinion that it is too early to assume that the situation is under control. In fact, many countries will make the transition from pandemic to endemic but still people have to sport masks and get their booster dose as well.
According to Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, ”there is a lot of happy talk that goes along the lines that Omicron is a mild virus and it’s effectively functioning as an attenuated live vaccine that’s going to create massive herd immunity across the globe.”
However this thinking is flawed and as of now it seems that the pandemic is far from over.
