Schools warned not to declare holidays

The School Education Department has warned private schools of stringent action if they close down due to non availability of water. Many schools in the city have declared holidays or have reduced the working hours due to acute water scarcity.

The Education Department said that it was the responsibility of the administration of the schools to ensure water availability.In a letter sent all the Chief Educational Officers and District Educational Officers, the School Education Department Director said that the school managements have to take appropriate action to address the water shortage and they were asked ensure that none of the schools closed down due to  unavailability of water. According to the Director, the right of children to free and compulsory education places responsibility on local bodies to provide basic amenities like electricity and water to schools in their areas.
