School bus falls into gorge

23 children and 4 adults accompanying them were killed when the school bus they were travelling in lost control and fell into a 100 metre deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh. This was the worst school bus accident in the region in recent years.

All the children were between 5 and 14 years of age. Of the 23 kids killed, 13 were boys and 10 were girls. The bus driver was also killed. The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a compensation of Rs5 lakhs for each of the families of the deceased and ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident.
