The Supreme Court said that the issue of vaccination is the singular most important task

As people await their first and second dose of vaccines, the Supreme Court has pulled up the Central government for their vaccination policy. The court pointed out that the issue of vaccination is the singular most important task for all governments. It questioned the Centre’s policy of varied pricing and asked why they were not providing free vaccine for people in the age group of 18-45. It asked the government to explain how they were going to spend 35000 crore that was allocated in the budget for healthcare. The SC has asked for reports on vaccination drive, to provide the percentage of people vaccinated for the first and second dose and the number of people covered in the rural areas. It has also sought data on Centre’s purchase of Covid 19 vaccines. Considering the increasing complications arising from the virus such as Mucormycosis, it has instructed the government to ensure proper supply of medicines for the same.
