The Madras High Court set aside an order passed by an Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate directing the Superintendent of Central Prison in Bengaluru to produce V.K Sasikala before the court on May 13 for questioning in a case under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act. The order was set aside and Sasikala was permitted to appear for questioning through video conferencing. The Court accepted the contentions of the petitioner who submitted that she was suffering from various ailments and back pain .
And her health would not permit her to travel from Bengaluru to Chennai and back and that too in a Police vehicle. She also submitted that much time would be saved and also unnecessary expenditure could be avoided if she was permitted to appear through video conferencing. However the Court directed the answers recorded by the Magistrate be sent to the prison to obtain Sasikala’s signature.
