Russian billionaires have lost billions of dollars as the country’s stock market as well as the ruble plunged after Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine.
Putin summoned the top business leaders of the country for a meeting at the Kremlin. 13 billionaires were present and over 116 billionaires have lost more than $126 billion since Russia attacked Ukraine. At the meeting, Putin is said to have told the business leaders that what is taking place currently is a necessary measure. However, none of the leaders commented on it.
A report states that at least five billionaires- Alekperov, Mikhelson, Mordashov, Potanin and Kerimov were the biggest losers who lost $1 billion or more.
Following the attack on Ukraine by Russia, the British government announced an asset freeze of Russian banks and also a ban on Russian nationals from holding more than 50,000 pounds in a UK bank account.
