ESOINDIA, organiser of Eso Run, a premier social organisation working for the social welfare for the patients with esophageal and gastric cancer organised an ESO RUN Marathon in November. The organisation regularly conducts awareness programmes on gastric and esophageal cancer for the students and general public but it’s the first time that they have conducted a marathon to spread awareness for the cause.
The run was followed by a public interaction about stomach cancer where specialists and cancer survivors participated and cleared the myths about cancer encouraging everybody to become a member of Gastric Cancer Help Group and save the society. The ESO RUN Marathon 2017 (http://www.esoindia.org) had four run categories – The Half Marathon (21 Km), Mini Marathon (10 Km), Corporate Run (5 Km) and a run for Survivors (2 Km) where 1250 people participated from all across the world. Prof. SM Chandramohan, MS MCh FACS, the founder Director of Institute of Surgical Gastroenterology, Chennai, who has been an instrumental force in organising the run for the past many years, stated, “ESOINDIA also hosts many awareness programmes, besides the Eso Run. I started this initiative to spread awareness among everyone. Everyone can come and volunteer. Even sharing your valuable time to volunteer for a noble cause will go a long way in saving many lives.”
