Preview of ready to wear ensembles by ‘Ruh’, by Pooja Singhal, who maintains the traditional in her contemporary processing, with the use of bright colours using block print, screen print and pintucks as surface treatments. The classics are pintuck kurtas in bright young colours like pink, red, yellow with palazzos and dupattas with interesting block prints. The screen print collection in soft white, yellow and lime colors depict buildings, trees and feathers on Indian silhouettes. This collection also consists of natural dyed indigo fabrics and mud resist printing which had been appliquéd and pin tucked and styled with dhoti pants. There is a bright festive collection of gold block beautifully ombré dyed prints on chanderi. Available in the price range Rs.1,900/- to Rs.8,000/-, at Amethyst entrance next to Corporation Bank, Whites Road, Royapettah, Chennai.
Ruh was set up by Pooja Singhal in 2004 to address a niche that was missing in the market. Clothes that were affordable were very expensive and the affordable brands lacked a design element, finish quality and fit. Pooja having been a member of the Crafts Council was particularly sensitized to grass root trends.
The Indigo story is inspired from Bagru a small village near Jaipur that specialises in this technique of indigo dyeing and printing. This collection consists of a collection completed to give a rich look for the upcoming festival season.
