British Deputy High Commissioner Dominic McAllister hosted the Queen’s Birthday Party and live screening of the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from Windsor Castle, UK in Bengaluru on Saturday, 19 May at JW Marriott. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw and Mohandas Pai were some of the eminent Bengalureans who attended the double celebration. Dominic McAllister also celebrated the 70th anniversary of the British Council in India. The staff of the British deputy high commission put up a fashion show sporting clothes from UK designer Simon Carter. McAllister noted that in April 2018, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Theresa May met in London ahead of the 25th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. There they reaffirmed the UK’s and India’s “unbeatable combination”. He said Karnataka is at the heart of this “unbeatable combination” and this was witnessed when Mrs. May chose to visit Bengaluru in November 2016 on her first bilateral visit overseas after taking on her leadership role.
